A regular monthly meeting of the Chesmont Astronomical Society (CAS) will be held on Sunday, April 25h in the Community Room at National Penn Bank, located on Rt. 23 about 1/4 mile west of the intersection of Rts. 23 and 100. The meeting will be open and free to the public. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm and end at approximately 9:00 pm. Anyone wishing to assist in setting up for the meeting and/or socializing prior to the meeting is welcome to arrive by 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be available. Our speaker tonight will be Jan Romer who will give a presentation on El Trouvelot, a 19th century artist-observer. Jan notes, “El Trouvelot was lucky enough to have access to the two best telescopes in the world at the time. While he’s more famous for something else (something terrible), his astronomical work was 'cutting age' for the time and his drawings still hold up now in the age of imaging.” The second portion of the meeting will include a presentation by club members Bob Pody and Robert Werkman on their recent excursion to Pettigrew State Forest for what was evidently a terrific night of observing. And, club member Ed Kane will give us information on the recent request for CAS to hold a star party this summer at World's End State Park.
